Here’s Why Finding a Last-Minute Galapagos Cruise Is the Best Idea

There’s still time to plan a last-minute trip to see the Galapagos Islands if you’re looking for an unforgettable vacation that lets you escape the winter weather. If this is the first time you’ve visited the islands, a great way to see them is to book a cruise. Companies like Tip Top Travel offer tours lasting as long as eight days, letting you see parts of the islands you’d never be able to see on your own.

Book A Vacation To The Galapagos

The Islands Are Opening for the Season

The Galapagos Islands are lovely to visit at any time of the year. However, December through May are the best months to visit, as the weather is generally pretty good, If you are already annoyed with cold weather and rain or snow. Now is a great time to book a vacation to the Galapagos.

Why Are Tours and Cruises the Better Options?

Although the Galapagos Islands look like a small cluster of islands on the map, some of them are comparatively remote.

If you tried to see all of these islands on your own, you might not be able to make it to some of the more isolated areas – and even if you could, the cost to hire guides and boats could be prohibitive. But aboard a cruise, you will have an itinerary, a comfortable room, and all meals.

You’ll still be paying for your food and room, but all the minutiae will be taken care of by the cruise company. You’ll know exactly where you’re going and when you’ll get to see which island.

Even better, when you are done seeing an island that day, you still have the option to join in activities with other cruise guests.

Entering Mainland Ecuador

You will need a negative COVID test result to enter Ecuador. The country no longer accepts the rapid-antigen testing that allowed many to travel with little planning as proof of health for entering the country. You’ll need to get an RT-PCR test within three days of your trip or documentation that certifies you have received all doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. (The certificate must be valid for at least 14 days before the flight).

If you have a negative RT-PCR test result but show symptoms of COVID 19.  A rapid antigen test (nasopharyngeal swab) will be carried out.

If the results are negative, you’re free to continue on your trip. If it’s positive, you’ll have to isolate it for 10 days in a lodging place at your expense.

Galapagos-Specific Entry Requirements

The requirements to enter the Galapagos Islands include the need for that RT-PCR test to be taken no more than 72 hours before boarding the aircraft you’re using to get to the Islands. Which Galapagos Islands Are The Most Beautiful To Visit?

The Galapagos is a destination like no other. The islands are filled with magnificent flora and fauna, stunning beaches, and views like no other. However, as an area that is famed for being unspoiled, most tours to these islands are with small Galapagos cruises that are as environmentally friendly as possible.

If you’re planning your next trip and want to learn more about the 21 islands in this beautiful archipelago, here is some information about the three islands that are most worth visiting.

Isabela

Isabela is the biggest island in the archipelago, which means there are plenty of things to see and do. Isabela’s main town, Puerto Villamil, has a laid-back vibe, perfect for anyone who wants to sit back and admire the incredible nature and extraordinary views this island has to offer.

Santa Cruz

This island is the most densely populated in the Galapagos. This area has restaurants, bars, cafes, and hotels that make the most exceptional scenery. This island is home to Tortuga Bay, where we can observe black turtles lay eggs in January and February and hatching these eggs in April and May.

North Seymour

If you are a bird lover, North Seymour is the island you must visit before leaving Galapagos. The island is all about the birds and is one of the best places to see beautiful blue-footed boobies and magnificent frigates. Better yet, your guide walks you through this area for a better understanding of the fauna.

Special Deals: Last-Minute Sales for Galapagos Tours

You hear about special prices and discounts for last-minute travel all the time, but how exactly do you find them? It takes patience to snag these deals, but if you can wait until a few weeks before the time you want to go, you can find some stellar packages, especially if you want to tour the Galapagos Islands.

Tour the Galapagos Islands

Space is still available

The travel industry is still recovering from the pandemic and while many Americans are taking off on summer trips, cruise operators still have a lot of space available, especially in locations outside the U.S.  This means you don’t have to book a cruise to the Archipelago very far in advance, and you can afford to wait until about four to six weeks before you want to go to find Galapagos cruise promotions.

It is possible to wait until one to two weeks before you want to go – and you may be able to find some great  Galapagos last minute deals but is cutting it very, very close, and your chances of finding the tour you want are small (not to mention last-minute planning to go overseas would be very rushed). It’s better to start looking a couple of months in advance.

Find some great  Galapagos last minute deals

When is the best time to look?

The Galapagos has three periods each year when cruising will be at its best, although you can always call to find out if any deals will be available outside those times. Mid-April through May, July through early September, mid-December to mid-January are peak times.

Call tour operators and ask about Galapagos cruise promotions or if they know of any Galapagos last minute deals that have just appeared. Check with a tour operator, what their requirements for visas are and if there are any COVID-19 specific precautions you need to take, such as proving vaccination card, taking a test, or wearing masks.

Call tour operators and ask about Galapagos cruise promotions

You can find some of the best Galapagos cruises and great discounts if you wait a bit before scheduling your journey. Speak with tour operators about deals first, grab one, and then arrange your flight. You’ll soon be on the trip of a lifetime.

A Guide to Organizing a Galapagos Cruise Charter For 2021

With the world starting to open up a bit more, and vaccinations in the U.S. on the rise, travel to the Galapagos Islands is one vacation option that will make your “re-entry” year much more memorable. The archipelago of 18 islands and many more islets hosts a stunning amount of rare and unique wildlife both on land and in the sea. A cruise to the Galapagos will create a lifetime of memories.

A Wealth of Wildlife to See
A Wealth of Wildlife to See

The Galapagos are home to an amazing ecosystem filled with rare species – and lockdowns only made the environment better. Without as many people around, the animals didn’t have to deal with as much disruption, and more of them have been visible around the islands. If you can go on a cruise now and visit the islands, you may have a chance to see wildlife that isn’t normally there. When you plan your trip to the Galapagos, look for tours and cruises around these areas where rarer species congregate to see if you can get a glimpse of them.

More Room and Time for Different Activities

More Room and Time for Different Activities

As time goes on, more tourists will return to the islands, but for now, numbers are still down. That means more places to go with fewer lines and more time for activities like snorkeling or hiking. Lounge on relatively uncrowded beaches and watch the beautiful clear-blue water with gorgeous horizons that you know have fantastic sunrises and sunsets. Speak with different resorts to find out what activities they offer themselves and which private companies are nearby so you have a variety of options available to you.

Plan your trip to the Galapagos

The Environment Is Always Wonderful

On average, the water surrounding the Galapagos is in the low to mid-70s, which is a wonderful temperature for snorkeling and diving. Even if all you want to do is stay in a boat and cruise around the archipelago, you’ll have a wonderful time as the weather, especially in winter, is usually balmy and comfortable.

Let a Galapagos-Born Captain Help

Tip Top Cruises is run by the family of the original settlers of the Galapagos Islands, native from Floreana, one of the main islands of the Galapagos. If you would like to plan a cruise, having a captain from the islands is especially helpful as you’ll get information that only those who grew up there know. You can still plan a 2021 summer cruise, so contact Tip Top Cruises for more Galapagos Islands information.

How to Explore the Galápagos Islands in the Age of Covid-19

Where else in the world, aside from possibly Antarctica, can someone immerse themselves in such raw nature as the Galápagos Islands? While there were once over 50 cruises running to the island, the world has vastly changed in the grip of Covid-19. Now, it’s rare for the number of cruises to the Galápagos Islands to exceed 3-5 ships at a time. However, as more people continue to receive the vaccine, we’re slowly getting closer to normality. However, if you can’t wait for everything to go back to the way it was, you may be wondering “How can I explore the Galápagos Islands now?”

Be prepared for Covid-19 screening

The Galápagos Islands are isolated, meaning that you’re sure to feel safe upon your arrival. However, before your Galápagos Islands cruise, you will be screened several times. A Negative PCR test with validity of up to three days before your arrival are required.

Galápagos Islands cruise

Take out travel insurance and follow social distancing rules

Travel insurance is now a requirement, so be sure to look for quotes beforehand! Mask use is also mandatory, along with antibacterial gel and the classic 6 feet distance (2 meters) that we’re all used to now. As for the cruise companies, some operators are setting sail once they reach the minimum threshold, so if you are looking to travel as soon as possible, you’re in luck! Some operators even have guaranteed departures each week.

Best Galápagos cruises

Know what you can and can’t do

There is a 3-hour time limit for visiting specific attractions and most of them are remote and uninhabited. Snorkeling is a must during your visit to the Islands, so you will receive your own equipment and wetsuits to use until the end of your excursion. Because of the lack of visitors during the pandemic, wildlife is more active than ever, so your chances of seeing a wide variety of creatures have increased too!

What are you waiting for? The Galápagos Islands are waiting for you! For more information about the best Galápagos cruises, get in touch with us today.

The Best Time to Visit the Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are truly one of the world’s greatest treasures. Made famous by Charles Darwin, whose famous expeditions there led to his ground-breaking theory of evolution, the Galapagos Islands are a natural sanctuary for some of the most unique wildlife. The right time to travel to the Galapagos largely depends on what you plan to do once you’re there. Here are some of the most important considerations when planning your trip.

Environmental Restrictions

Environmental Restrictions:

Due to the Fragile Ecosystem of the Islands, authorities limit the number of visitors at any particular time. So while Galapagos last minute deals are available, the best course of action is to plan your trip well in advance. This way, you will be able to ensure that space is available for all of your desired activities.

Air Travel Vs. Cruise

Air Travel Vs. Cruise:

Travel to the Galapagos is similarly limited. There are only two airports, which means that additional accommodations will need to be made to travel over the various Islands. Cruise ships are also limited to a particular size to reduce their environmental impact. Generally speaking though, cruises offer luxury and amenities that reduce stress and allow you to sit back and enjoy the islands. Just be sure to check your Galapagos cruise itinerary to make sure that it meets all your requirements.

Weather:

Being just south of the equator, The Galapagos climate is generally consistent throughout the year (70-80 oF ). Still, there are a few considerations to take into account before pulling the trigger on your travel plans. First of all, the seasons are reversed compared to North America, meaning the warmer months occur from December to May. While certainly not overwhelming, this warm period is also when most precipitation occurs. During the colder months from June to November, ocean currents bring rich nutrients and sea life to the waters, making it the perfect time for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Snorkelling and scuba diving

The truth is, with its natural beauty and endless charm, there is never a bad time to visit the Galapagos Islands. The most important thing is to plan ahead and make sure that you have the best Galapagos cruise itinerary and activities secured well ahead of your visit. This will ensure that you are making the most out of your trip to the Galapagos! Contact Tip Top Travel today to plan your perfect getaway.
